In high school (about 6 years ago) I did a science fair project on fractals.
We had an Apple IIGS and an Apple IIc for the calculations. We had no problem
running the IIgs for days (it took that long for some calcuations) with the top
off and a fan blowing on it. The IIc did not hold up so well, however. After
much more than 24hrs, it began to exhibit particularly odd behavior. We had to
rewrite our programs so that the calculations could be saved and restarted
after it had had a little rest. Of course, there is NO FAN on the IIc of any
kind.
