He sued for slander, if the suit was ever actually filed (I'm not sure one
way or the other). Libel is for printed matter only. Liable is not a civil
offense; although one can be held liable.

Furthermore, the frivolity of this matter is shocking. Sagan thought,
idiotically, that Apple was going to use his name on a product; it was a
code name, for development purposed only.

Sagan needed a clue; Apple engineering mocked him brilliantly with the BHA
moniker. 

Since then, Apple has adopted a "no persons living or recently dead" rule
for code names. Too bad.
