For the most part, a SCSI hd is a SCSI hd. So all you need is an
external hd (or an internal and a case) and a IIgs SCSI interface
card. The majority of csa2ers will suggest getting a RamFAST SCSI
card. It has several advantages over the next best alternative: the
Apple Hi-Speed SCSI card. It is faster, especially in ProDOS; It is
still being supported by its maker (Sequential Systems); it is
possible to map partitions to drive locations; and it can provide
termination power to the SCSI chain.
The main advantage of the Apple HS is it can work with over 100
partitions at one time while the RF is limited to 12.

For the most part, an external modem is an external modem. The modem
makers package them in PC or MAC varieties; the only difference being
the software and the modem cable. None of the software will work on
the IIgs. The PC modem cable will not work with the IIgs. The MAC
cable might work with the IIgs - it depends on if it is properly
wired for the IIgs or not; for hi-speed operations (9600+) the IIgs
needs a properly wired hi-speed hardware-handshaking cable. This is
sort of hit or miss. If miss, buy a IIgs cable from InTrec or
Alltech.
