Mysterious card - Synertek Fast Card

I just bought one of these puppies, and I have no clue what it is.

It has a 40 pin chip near the edge connector, a bank of 8 20 pin chips
in the middle, and miscellaneous LSTTL logic all over the board.

The only markings on it aside from part designations are:

SYNERTEK FASTCARD
(c) 1983
MADE IN USA

Any ideas?
