If the monitor isn't too strongly magnetized, and the magnetization is near
the surface of the glass (I vaguely remember there being a sort of mesh
there to separate the colors...) you can try this. Use a soldering gun
(not iron) and hold it near the screen with the tip pointing to the side
of the monitor. A high wattage gun will probably work better. Turn
the gun on and you should see some neat color effects, now move the gun
slowly around and make sure to bring it far enough away from the screen
so the colors stop moving before you turn it off. You should now have
a nice degaussed monitor. BTW, this also works great for degaussing
screwdrivers. Good luck!
