I didn't catch the original message, but there is a self test on the Apple
//c.  Hold down the Apple (not open-apple) key and press control reset. 
This will throw it into a self test and semi-random patterns will be seen
on the screen.  After it is through testing it could do several things
depending on the ROM rev you have.  The later //c's that could handle the
3.5" drives would put something about "AppleTalk Online" or something like
that.  Earlier ones just said
"System OK"

If it is a RAM problem it should give the location.



ps.  It's been a while since I had a //c, the key sequence might be both
open-apple and apple keys and control-reset.
