Actually it does do a rudimentary check of expansion RAM, at least
up through 1.125M (Bank $11).  It is test number 04 (first 2 digits
displayed while it is doing the self tests) and you can see the
bank number (second 2 digits) count up from 00 to $11.  At least as
far as I remember.
