//gs Power Supply questions/problems

I am having some problems with the power supply on my //gs ... it
makes a loud whining noise that increases in volume when a drive is
accessed or there is a heavy load on the processor and sometimes it
just shuts off and refuses to turn on again.  If I shut it down it
"chirps" rapidly and then dies down slowly.

I suspect a bad transformer since I have heard this chirping problem
thousands of times on Mac+ that have had flyback tranformers go bad.
I was wondering if anyone elses has had this problem or experienced
anything similar.

In addition I was wondering just how many peripherals the //gs power
supply can take.  Right now I have 

2 3.5 drives
1 5.25 drive
MDI SuperSonic Stereo Card
ZipGS Accelerator Card
Ram expansion board with 2 megs and the original 1 meg AppleRam
sitting on it piggyback (3.2 megs total)

Should the //gs power supply be able to handle this ok ?
