Now that the "G" is back, perhaps someone could considering
polishing up the "S" along with it! :) The wavetable sound of the
Ensoniq DOC 5503 is still leaps and bounds above most other systems,
yet the one thing that fuels that sound, DOC-RAM, is quite lacking!
We only have a mere 64K to load in instrument patches, even though
the chip can fully address 128k of DOC-RAM. However something more
in the area of 512k to 1MB DOC-RAM would be nice, this is the amount
found in current-day wavetable cards for the PC, sometimes even more.
And of course 16-bit sound resolution would make those patches
sound even better (we're currently limited to 8-bit sound with the
Ensoniq 5503). This is just a pipe dream, but what would to take to
clean things up in this area...some sort of new stereo card that could
patch-in and enhance the current built-in sound chip, or would you have
to abandon it and basically add an Ensoniq 5505 w/ 1MB DOC-RAM on a slot
card?
