I live in Atlanta as well (actually Buford, but who's counting)
so I just had to go. Today I do exclusively Unix stuff but occasionally
fire up one of the Apples (still do my check book stuff there)
so COMDEX didn't have much happening for me except hardware-wise.
But here's something to put it in perspective for those who
think Microsoft does and will continue to rule the world.
The only other computing convention I've been to was 1985
at Info-Mart in Dallas (obviously conventions don't excite me
too much). About 80% of everything was related to AppleII,
10% IBM stuff and 10% Commadore/Timex/Atari. This year was
80% IBM compatable (Microsloth,OS/2), 10% Apple and
10% Unix/etc. Let's hear it for people who thought Macs
would give Apple an edge :(
Anyways my only point is, well how about this point: computers
have sure gotten glossy and marketable but are they any good?
And the people "manning" the booths were ALOT better looking
this year than in 1985 and know ALOT less about what they're
selling.
Please stay tuned for my Linux Convention 2005 report!!
