Telnet to "hermes.merit.edu".
At the "host:" prompt, enter "sprintnet-313171".
If it works, you'll then get the regular GEnie "U#=" prompt. I've found
that I can't always get a connection, but if I try a bit later, it
works. Note that this is only a 7-bit channel, so you can't download
binary files over it. (If you pay for an account at Merit, you can get
an 8-bit connection, I believe.)
Officially, this is unsupported, but as long as it works, it's saving me
a whole lot of money! For those outside North America, you could really
save big!
