Help to use old Apple printer!

A friend of mine (JLIEBERH@esa.bitnet) is trying to use an old (1982)
Apple matrix printer model A3M0027 with a DOS machine.
Does anybody remember this printer? Can we set it in serial mode? What was
the protocol at that time?

As I am in Japan and he is in France, I have not seen the printer, but I
suppose there should be some dip-switch; anybody knows how to set them for
serial connection?
