I just got another IIgs donated to the school. It is a "Woz" and was a
ROM 0, until I got it upgraded to a ROM 1 at the local dealer (the
upgrade is still free BTW). I wanted to hook this into the AppleTalk
network that I already have running (2 gs's, IW II, LW 320, Mac+ w/System
7 filesharing). I just spent all day trying to get it to work. Disks
without any atinit files booted up fine, but if there was an atinit file,
it wouldn't work. With an AppleWorks disk with atinit file, it would
hang at the ProDos intro screen. With a GS/OS System 6.0.1 disk with
AppleShare installed, it would begin the boot process just fine, but then
about halfway through there would be no more disk access, the thermometer
would fill up, and then it would hang at the thermometer screen. After
trying everything I could think of, I finally got the bright idea to try
hooking the phonenet connector into the modem port instead of the printer
port. Then it worked. I haven't tried hooking a serial device (like a
modem or printer) into the printer port yet, so I'm not sure if it is a
problem with the printer port, or if the ROM 0 machines had a problem
with their AppleTalk implementation. Anybody have thoughts or
experiences that might apply to my problem?
Thanks in advance, Greg
