network GSs - file server

I am a dedicated Apple IIGS User and have a couple of Mac-GS related
questions. Excuse me if I use the wrong terminology - I am pretty
ignorant when it comes to networking computers.

  1) I am interested in buying a Mac to be used for TWO purposes
        1. to run Mac software *:)
        2. to network - use as a file server for my GSs

Of course, I would like to buy the best, fastest possible but my
pocketbook will not allow that. I am running my GSs with a 10 Mhz
ZipGS and RamFastGS with 1Mb cache so I am used to running at the
fastest possible. I certainly do not want to slow-down my GSs by
      networking.

What would the minimum requirements be in the Mac (want COLOR)?
(which Macs?) I am confused about the different Mac capibilities.
Too many to keep up with.

What would be a good source for finding out more info about
networking, etc? (written in 'simple' English *:)

  2) I remember some postings talking about Mac Notebook computers. I
recall something being mentioned that _some_ Notebooks (but not
all) can be daisy-chained to your GS hard drive and will showup
on the GS desktop as a disk volume. I would appreciate more info
      about this.

Could a Mac Notebook be used as a file server?

Thanks... Jeanne
