Well IIgses do have localtalk built in so you can connect to the network, but
sounds like you would be wanting to use TCP over the connection to talk to the
mainframe. That's not currently possible with a IIgs. On a Mac you can run
MacTCP over localtalk to do that but that's not much help in this case. So
looks like you'll need to dial up.
Gee when I was an undergrad living in the dorms at BU, the only access was via
dialup which topped out at 1200 bps. I hear tell they provide PPP access now
though at least.
