Huge difference. Apple //e (base system) had 64K Ram, 1Mhz 6502
(8-bit processor), and not very good (relatively speaking) graphics
and sound. The very base system had connections only to power, RF
video out (not the greatest), keyboard and joystick. Anything else
had to be added on with cards.

Apple IIGS has either 256K or 1MB Ram on the motherboard, 2.5 Mhz
65816 (16-bit processor), Ensoniq sound chip (64K digitized sound
buffer) and much better graphics. Also, on the motherboard, there's
2 serial ports, ADB port for keyboard/mouse, disk ports, and such.
