Re: ProDOS manual needed -- editor needed?
Hmmm...Sounds like what you are looking at on the Mac side is a tokenized
BASIC program.
BASIC programs are not stored as text. Each BASIC keyword is stored as a
single character. So if you port the file directly to the Mac and look at
it with the program formerly known as TeachText, it will look very strange
indeed.
If you want to edit a BASIC program using a text editor, you should add
the following line to the beginning of the program:
0 PRINT CHR$(21):PRINT CHR$(4);"OPEN PROGRAM.TXT":PRINT CHR$(4);"WRITE
PROGRAM.TXT":POKE 33,33:LIST 1,63999:PRINT CHR$(4);"CLOSE":TEXT:END
Then RUN the program. The lines above will create a file called
PROGRAM.TXT, which will be a plain-text version of the BASIC program. The
code works in either DOS 3.3 or ProDOS. Once you have edited the code,
you can get it back by typing...
]NEW
]EXEC PROGRAM.TXT
You will get a long string of "]" prompts as the program re-writes iteself
into memory just as if you had typed it all back in. If you are working
in DOS 3.3, you can make it more interesting by typing...
]NEW
]PR#3
]MON I
]EXEC PROGRAM.TXT
This will allow you to watch the process happen. Doesn't work in ProDOS,
though, since Apple left out the MON command (and NOMON, and FP, and
MAXFILES...)
If you'd rather just edit the BASIC program directly, on the ][e side, I
strongly recommend GPLE, the Global Program Line Editor. Don't know where
you can get it legally these days, unfortunately.
