I had a really strange problem with my Zip and ProTERM a few days ago:
All of a sudden, ProTERM v3.1 just kept locking up for no reason.  I'd
hit <control> <reset>, and ProTERM would react normally, but when the
first character that was typed to the modem caused PT to hang again.
ANSITerm v2.1 crashed right when it loaded, and GS/OS crashed "colorfully"
even before it would register that I was shift booting.  I removed all
of my cards (2MB RAM, HS SCSI, etc.) but the problem persisted.  I
couldn't pull my Zip Chip GSX 8Mhz/16k since my original 65816 had its
legs bent off.  A quick trip to #appleiigs on the M*c's down the hall
is what saved the day: Ian Schmidt told me what the error numbers meant,
and James Sanford told me that the problem was that the clamps that hold
the CPU's pins weren't making a good enough contact.  Sure enough, when I
reseated the ribbon cable, everything worked like a charm.  I had just
purchased 64k SRAMs, so I thought they were at fault and was madly
swapping SRAMs.  I couldn't imagine that _everything_ else would work
(like AppleWorks, etc.) flawlessly while one of the cpu pins wasn't
making good contact.  The moral of the story is, if you don't act like
this on irc:
