I received the following reply from Bill St.Pierre (creator of
the TurboRez GS video enhancement board) a few hours ago, I'll let it
speak for itself. Unfortunately, it seems the rumours of the TurboRez's
demise are indeed true... :(

News from RezTek
Subject: Status of TurboRez GS
As of the above date, production of the TurboRez GS board has been
suspended and will not be resumed. It's been a long, difficult path
over the years, with various versions of the product appearing
periodically. At this point, however, the project is being laid to
rest and RezTek will not be developing any standalone video boards
for the Apple II in the future. Despite getting about as close as
we've ever been to completing the product, there's no arguing with
the fact that the competing board from Sequential Systems is not
only beating us out the door by 3-4 months but also has the clear
advantage in the price category. Rather than subject ourselves to
an economically bruising battle and putting the Apple II marketplace
thru a VHS/Beta type product war, we decided this was the best course
of action. This will insure a single, standard upgrade path.
So, for those Apple IIe/IIGS users who are interested in enhancing
the video output of their computers, we'd like to suggest and recommend
the Second Sight video card from Sequential Systems (which should be
shipping right about now). Sequential is a company known for putting
out solid, well-designed products in the past, and the Second Sight
card looks to be no exception. Here at RezTek, we're looking into the
distinct possibility of supporting the Second Sight product sometime
in the near future. Stay tuned for more on that subject...

I find it this rather annoying! The card was announced way back
during the 1989 San Francisco AppleFest, where it was soon pronounced
_dead_ a year later in the summer of 1990. About a year or two passed and
our hopes were raised again as Bill claimed he'd resurrected the card from
the dead. Now, six years later, after leaving us anxiously awaiting (and
promises that the card would be introduced regardless of any circumstances)
it is *again* proclaimed dead! This rollercoaster ride of hope is getting
irrating...especially when the ride up the hill takes 5 years! (makes the
going down part a little uneasy! ;-)
There is a bitter-sweet side to this. At least there will now be
one video board standard and efforts of support will not be segmented in
an already small community of programmers. Rather than kill the TRez, it's
too bad RezTek and Sequential couldn't have combined their two cards into
one. We could have had the best of both worlds in one single package, though
now I guess we'll have to settle for only one...
