The IIgs came out in 1986, has desktop toolkits built into ROM and, 
when running a desktop program, looks alot like a MAC.  It also runs 
99% (or so) of all the Apple II software ever written.  Also, it 
came with a 2.8MHz clock.

Also, for the most part, the center of the Apple II world is on the 
A2 and A2pro RoundTables on GEnie.  Tons of shareware.  Lots of online
support from companies that still do A2 stuff.  Etc.
