They may "look" the same..

But the color of the disk surface is more of a gray or purplish hue
than a brown.
The lack of a hub ring is another thing..

Put simply, the behavior you are expressing is exactly what will
happen.

They might format, it may even boot. Once. Sorta.

You will loose what you manage to get onto it.

ProDOS will most certainly never get into it, DOS 3.3 might be able to
lure you into a trap.
