AppleWorks and Epson RX-80 printer won't work

I have been trying to get my old Epson to work with Appleworks.
I have connected the printer via an Epson APL card and the printer works
from Basic. I have selected the Epson RX printer configuration from within
the printer setup in Appleworks and the printer does absolutely nothing.
What else do I need to configure? Shouldn't the built in driver of Appleworks
work properly? Any help would be appreciated. Ken
