Archiver & corrupt restores

My previous message was not clear at all with reference to my archiving
problem.  I have backed up 180mb of goodies spread across 8 partitions.
I am now trying to restore those archives and I'm getting errors, and It
seems that nothing is de-archiving properly.  Where did I go wrong?
Can I ever get my files back?  Is the Archiver sensitive to hardware
changes, or a change from sys 6.0 to sys 6.0.1?  Thanks for any help!
