Monitor trouble

I am setting up a Powermac 7100, with a 17" multiscan monitor.  It has
been working fine for over 5 months, when suddenly it decided that the 
screen was now about 25" instead of 17" - meaning that I can only see
some of the desktop by moving the screen offset manually.

I haven't done anything unusual for several weeks; I was just working
in Wordperfect 3.0, left for a cup of tea, screen saver was on when I
came back, pressed the mouse button and the screen was changed.

I have Now utilities and have tried extensions isolation with no
success - any ideas about what is happening ??
