  no.  if the computer's scsi controller doesn't support fast mode, it
won't be used.

  if the drive has a proper implementation of SCSI-II, it won't do any
of the funky fast stuff unless it has negotiated it with the other
device on the chain.  a non-wide scsi-ii devide should work just fine
on a chain with scsi-i devices.
