Have you tried using any other Macintosh software to format the disks
(e.g. Apple File Exchange)?

Which model of Macintosh do you have?  Some of the more recent models
have a problem with their disk drives when reading/writing/formatting
800k disks.  I can't remember the exact details - can anyone else fill
us in?
