An apple_free partition is just the free space left over on the drive
after you make your other partitions. In other words, just make one
partition, and make it about 10 MB, and you should be set. I know this
can easily be done using ADU, but I've never tried it with any Mac
utilities. Of course, you could always just make an A/UX partition or
something to hide the bad blocks.
