Any keyboard or mouse which supports the same ADB register layout as
the original Apple keyboards and mice will work. This probably
includes most trackballs (extra features may not be available).
Other devices could be used, if a device driver was written. This is
probably easiest if the device operates in a similar fashion to a
mouse: an event manager driver can be written which generates mouse
movements and button operations in response to operations on the device.
I have done this for a Touchscreen (not an ADB one, but the principle
should be the same).
For other devices, some kind of macro facility is probably best - the
driver could be programmed to generate mouse or keyboard operations in
response to operations on the device.
In any case, programming information would be required for the device,
so it is not a simple case of just getting a device and writing a
driver for it.
