Quick GS Sound Question

How can I install new sounds to pair up with system events via the Sound NDA?

Today I dug up some old sounds--VOCs and WAVs, mostly--and tried to pair them
up with appropriate events ("Game over, man, game over!" from "Aliens" as the
shutdown sound, and "Gimme some sugar, baby" from "Army of Darkness" for the
Insert Disk sound).  After stripping the zeroes, I used the File Manager NDA
to set the type and auxtype of the sound files to the same as those of the
already-installed sound files ($D8 and $0003 respectively), and finally
rebooted.  But the new files didn't show up in the Sound Control Panel list.
What am I doing wrong?
