My IIgs is still screwing up...
Sigh. Me again. Unfortunately, my problems have not yet subsided.
Even with most of my inits turned off, random corruption of files
still happens. The problem is that crashes (I get lots of those too)
are totally unpredictable. Whenever I can get my machine to consistently
crash, I can usually replace the affected files from backups and
everything works. I'm currently thinking that the random corruption
_causes_ init conflicts, not the other way around.
It sounds like hardware. I don't know if I trust my memory card, an
Apricorn. However, I made it into a 2 Mb Ramdisk, and ran AW4's
Read/Write disk test on it, and it passed. The other thing that
I'm not sure I trust is the cache RAM on the RamFAST.
What I'm looking for is a freeware/shareware (not AWGS! Too much $)
program to test memory cards and the cache RAM on the RamFAST.
Can it be tested? In the meanwhile I have all the disk caches
turned off so I don't use the cache RAM. If that helps, I'll report.
Thanks to all who wrote to help before, and to those who will,
Avi D.
