Good, god!  You are the only one to reply to my post, and your
suggestion was a god-send.  After all the years of electronics hobbyist
work I've done, I'm embarrassed to not have thought of that!

The fan I purchased has the 2 pin female connector already on it.  I
took for granted that it was wired the same way as my GS fan connector.
It wasn't.  Since I have my ROM 3 motherboard laying bare in front of me
while I type, I thought I'd try to squeeze the connector on, and sure
enough ... the fan works perfectly now!  Thank you, thank you, thank
you!  I was confused by the reading my digital multimeter gave me.  It's
an autoranging meter that also automagically corrects for reversed
polarity, too.  When I tested the voltage and the amperage, I didn't
change the probes, but still the voltage was positive, and the amperage
was negative.  That's what threw me off.  Anyhow, it works!
