IIgs game port problem
I recently purchased a IIgs through .a.marketplace. All is fine except the
game port is flakey. At first I didn't care, but now I also purchased for my
young son a game which uses something called a Koala pad. It is basicly a VERY
LARGE keypad for young kids and it connects to the game port. I know the Koala
pad is OK because I tried it on my good old faithful IIc. So the problem is
the game port on the IIgs.
The symtom is that one must press keys on the large keyboard very hard and
repeatedly before getting any response from the IIgs/program. And even then
there may be no response to some keys. I pulled the
cover of my IIgs to see what I could see. I suspected that it is a bad
connection at the game port socket, but there isn't much to see or do there. I
did notice that just below slot 4 is a large 2 row by 8 pin socket (16 total
pins) labelled "J21 GAME"; it is empty.
Anybody have any ideas on what I can do or try to repair this myself?
What is the J21 socket for?
