Hello, I am getting ready to hook up an Apple II+ to a UN*X machine
as a permanent terminal. I have a couple of concerns first. First,
there are a couple of characters for which the Apple II+ does not
have keys (such as | and `) which are essential to using UN*X. Is
there any way to send these? Is there, for example, a communications
program which can send specific ASCII codes? I assume there is
some way, or else it would be impossible to dial up to a UN*X
machine with a II+.
Also, I am concerned about the lower case. I understand there is
a shift key modification which enables me to send lower case? Is
this something I can do myself? How can I tell if it's already
been done to my system? Also, is there a way to display lower case?
I think I have heard about a character ROM replacement or something
similar. Can someone please tell me about this?
If this will be more trouble than it is worth, please let me know;
I have an Apple IIe which works fine for this project. I just got
the II+, though, and it's in better condition, and if nothing else,
more nostalgic, so I'd like to see it work. :)
