IW-II Printhead.
I'm trouble-shooting an IW-II for my son's 3rd grade class and I
suspect the culprit is a dirty or just plain worn out printhead.
The self-test runs fine, but the print quality is aweful. Test prints
of solid black shapes suggests that two pins may not be firing at all,
and the others aren't firing cleanly. The result is a dirty, fuzzy
printout with blank stripes running across it. I've pulled the printhead
and it looks well worn. I'm half tempted to either swab the pins with
a light lubricant (3-in-1) or mild organic solvent (pentane or hexane),
but I thought I'd check in with you wise folks before trying anything
rash. Ideas? Thoughts? Good two-liners?
Thanks o'plenty!
