| Appleshare 4.0 requires an '040 and doesn't support booting II's from the
| server. 2.0 doesn't run under system 7. So 3.0 is the one to get. It's still
| available, you can get it for $969 at Macwarehouse. It's still quite beyond
| the affordability/justifiability limit for most home users. I got a copy from
| a local liquidation outfit for $400 around a year ago.
| 3.0 is vastly improved over 2.0 in that individual folders can be set up as
| server volumes and you can mount and unmount volumes without shutting down
| the server. So I'd not mess with 2.0 unless you get it for free or something.

running under system 7 is not that great of an advantage. right now
i'm administrator on a 2.01 system (all macs :( ), and share
administration on a 4.0 server.

4.0 is fun, ya whoo.

2.0 does everything we need it to do.

now then, about server volumes... if you need more than the one with
server folder on it under
2.0, just repartition the drive. or heck, even software partition the
drive (norton partition utility for example).

mounting & unmounting volumes by taking the server down isn't that big
of a deal if you've only got 2-3 machines running off the server.

2.0 is fine.

I use an Apple II+ clone. It's probably faster than your machine,
unless you run on a SPARC station.
