Brutal Deluxe : PicViewer

  			Hello,

You will find in comp.binaries.apple2 or in the ccosun.caltech.edu
a .shk file called PictViewer.

In this file you will find three folders containing:

        - Convert2dg:
A simple program that loads any picture from a directory and
then converts it to the DreamGraphix formats.

        - Source.DG:
The source of the unpacking routine from DreamGraphix.

        - PicViewer:
A FinderExtension that loads any picture format and then prints
                it to the screen!

About PicViewer :
-----------------

Here is a tribute to the Apple //gs Finder users who are in lack
of memory!

Since the introduction of the Apple InterApplication Communication
package, many picture viewers came to life. All of them were able to support
the main Apple //gs picture formats, they were useful but they need a lot
of memory to work.

So, our idea was simple: The Less Memory I Use, The Better It Is!
And, then, PicViewer was developed.

The current 1.0 version supports the following formats:

  - Unknown 3200 colors (DYA Format)
  - Binary 16/256/3200 colors
  - French Format 3200 colors (old-APP & new-NRL)
  - PaintWorks 16/256 colors
  - PackBytes 16/256/3200 colors
  - Apple Preferred Format	16/256/3200 colors
  - Unpacked screen 16/256/3200 colors
  - Animation $C2 animation files
  - DreamGraphix 16/256/3200 colors
  - Icon File

As far as animation files are concerned, when the file is bigger
than the memory available, PicViewer loads the maximum size in memory then
animates it. Other viewers don't do it!

As you can see, the viewer (that is only 7kb long) handles old and new formats.

It works with 16, 256 or 3200 colors pictures.
The only limitation is that it will only work with pictures up to 320*200 or
640*200, bigger sizes are not supported (there's no use to make a 4096*4096
picture when you can't load it in memory!).

Here are the three keys you can use in the viewer:

	- LeftArrow	make an animation file slower
	- RightArrow	make an animation file faster
	- Tabulation	in 16/256 colors mode, switch between 320/640 mode

In order to conclude, let us just say that the extension:

	- is freeware
	- works under The Manager
	- takes less memory than others
	- recognizes more formats than other programs
