I had the same problem years ago with a Rocket Chip, an Apple Memory
Expansion Card and PI in a //c. The secret is to run a BASIC startup
program that calls a binary routine that changes the speed of the RAM Card
to 1 MHz (and just the RAM card, not the CPU). Control returns to the
BASIC program that then sets your prefix the way you want it and starts
PI. The routine you need should be somewhere on the utility disk that came
with the Zip chip. If not, then there is a setup utility that will do the
same thing - set the speed of the memory card down to 1 MHz. This seems to
be some kind of system timing problem that affects only programs that
create sys.desktop (PI and AppleWorks).
