The best upgrades are from an outfit in Dallas called Applied
Engineering, get in touch with these folks for memory upgrades, EXCELLENT
products!

: : in the AppleWorks program that came with the computer. Did I miss
: : something?
: Sort of...To save an Appleworks file as an ASCII file, you need to [P]rint
: the file. When prompted for the printer, the last option on the print
: menu should be "a text (ASCII) file on disk." Select that option, and you
: will be asked for the file's "COMPLETE Pathname". That is the name of the
: file you want to be created, including the disk name. For example, to
: save the file "Chapter.3" in the directory "Part.1" on a disk called
: "My.Stuff" you would type...
: /MY.STUFF/PART.1/CHAPTER.3
: and Appleworks would dutifully create the file. Then, you can use a
: null-modem cable and a pair of communication programs on the ][e and on
: the PC to transfer the TXT versions of the files. Or you can upload the
: files to another machine, then download to the PC. Or any number of other
: options...one of the easiest involves 3.5" disks and access to a Macintosh.
: : Second question: Can an Apple2e computer be enhanced, upgraded? If so,
: : how? I have children that want to use it.
: How upgraded do you want? The ][e does have an official enhancement,
: involving a replacement microprocessor and a couple of other chips, which
: you may already have. To find out, empty the disk drives and power up the
: machine. If you see "Apple //e" at the top of the screen, then you have
: the enhancement. If you see "Apple ][", then the machine is not enhanced.
: Beyond that, you can get increased memory, accelerators, accelerated
: microprocessors, hard drivs, special-purpose interfaces, and lots of
: other neat stuff. What do you want to do with the computer?
