My "ACM: The History of Electronic Computing" lists as a big event for 1981 the following: "A year after its announcement, the doomed Apple III ships, suffers nearly 100% failure rate." I assume they don't mean that nearly 100% failed to work! What (or who) killed the Apple III? Was it the introduction of the PC? A wretched design?
