You don't need a serial port rate higher than 38.4k to fully benefit
from 28.8k v.FC or 28.8k v.34.  The higher serial rates are only useful
if you have hardware (modem) data compression enabled and you happen
to transfer a lot of compressable data such as text files; there is no
benefit from transferring already compressed data such as .SHK, .GSHK,
.BXY, .GIF, .ZIP, etc.  From my experience with transferring compressed
data, there is no difference from using 38.8k or 57.6k or 115.2k or
230.4k.  To the original poster, I say go for it.  Get the new
Practical Peripherals (PPI) 28.8k v.34/v.FC modem and ProTerm v3.1 and
enjoy the speed (avoid USR until they fix the disconnect problem with
their v.FC code).  I know I am. =)
