Be more careful in selecting ascii or binary mode.  Many files on
grind, especially its own catalog, are ascii.  Check the extension or
number of files.  If '.bsq' or '.bsc', these are ascii files.  If
'.shk', then binary.  There are other file extensions, but these are
the most common.  If there are multiple files, say 'fred.12' and
'fred.22' the odds are this is a 2 part binsciied file, so, they need
ascii transfer.
