Nope.  There is no way for the drive to tell the computer that a disk
has been inserted or removed, so the computer has to poll the drive
regularly to find out.

The only improvement would be some way of configuring the polling, to
disable it while you wanted pristine background silence for music.

It should only be a problem in Finder, Standard File, and in other
newer applications (or newer versions of applications) that call the
new System 6 functions for performing drive polling.

Note that the IIgs doesn't actually poll the 5.25" drive - its light
blinks are indications of the 3.5" drives being polled.  I think the
5.25" drive gets selected for a short time (until the 3.5" drive cuts
off the daisy-chained select line).

The 3.5" drive motor has to be started before the "disk present"
indicator can be returned.  It is turned off again almost immediately,
but there will be a power surge on the 12V rail.  The 12V rail is used
to power most of the amplification in the IIgs sound circuitry, hence
the audible click.
