There are lots of ways you can do this:

1) Get ProSel 16. The most handy program ever written for my IIGS. It
is a PROgram SELector, but MUCH more. It can format, catalog, fix,
optimize, edit, sort, etc. your disk drive. You can launch both 8-bit
and 16-bit software from it.

2) Using System 6.0.1 (which has the latest version of GS/OS (4.2?) on it)
press the '8' key right when you start up to launch a *.SYSTEM file in
your root directory. I have ProSel 8 as my first .SYSTEM file in the
root directory, so when I hold 8, I go into ProSel 8.

3) Use something like Quality Computers ((800) 777-3642) Switch Hitter
which loads either ProDOS 8 or ProDOS 16 depending on the position of
the caps lock key.

I _strongly_ reccomend using #1 and #2.

Yes. One note, tho. Once you start using 16-bit software, you will probably
run into Resource Forks. This is where a program stores stuff like sounds,
etc. ProDOS 8 does not know how to handle these files, so it will say the
file is damaged. Using Copy II+ to copy/sort such a file will destroy it,
and may do other havoc to other programs on your disk.

Put everything on one partition. It's a lot easier.

System Software is GS/OS and the Finder. Try holding space bar when loading
up System 6.0.1- you'll get text info on what's being loaded instead of the
splash screen w/the thermometer (which Mac 7.5 _still hasn't gotten right :) )

Boot up the first one, and double click on "Installer".

No GS should be without System 6.0.1.

No. It's VERY easy. Just choose "Easy Install".

Ack. :)

Hehehe. Well, good luck!
