ANSITerm never loses characters on me... you must have an init that is
causing troubles, or have the wrong cable.  I have a zip 10/64 and have
had no problems with ansiterm, and it keeps up very well on 14.4 ANSI,
although it lags a tad (note tad) in lists of text.

Maybe you have something with a LOT of interrupts, no?
