I'm not sure if the ProDOS FST on the Mac can read anything but disks.
It couldn't read my 44MB SyQuest; although the root dir. was ok, the
rest was corrupt (on my disk). 

Why not just hook the CD-ROM up to your GS?  All you need is a SCSI
card, and if you don't have one, this'd be a great time to look at 
the RamFAST with those SCSI drive prices plummetting :)
