That's odd, I could have sworn Roger mentioned at KansasFest that
HyperStudio stacks could be used in any version of HS, including the
planned Windows version (with some exceptions, like QuickTime movies
in stacks could only be played on the Mac).  This was one of the main 
reasons why I was considering getting it, even though HyperCard GS is 
now free.  I want to make my stacks on my GS, but use some of them on 
my PowerBook.

If a converted is required, then I'll be waiting for it before buying
HS, so consider this a vote for one.
