I wonder if they are referring to the infamous shift key mod.
Some programs will recognise the use of button 2 to signify the shift key
has or has not been pressed. The mod consists of running a wire from the
keyboard connector near the front to the button 2 input in the game
controller. As to which part of the keyboard connector, you'll have to
check out your hardware reference manual. It is in the middle of a series
of pins (if you choose the incorrect pin from going from the other
direction you get the <Ctrl> key).
