Apple IIc Modem Port:

5       1
  4   2
    3

1 -- DTR (RTS) output
2 -- TD
3 -- GND
4 -- RD
5 -- DSR (DCD) input

Note:  On the Apple IIc's 6551 controlling the modem port, the port's DTR
output is controlled by the RTS output of the 6551, and the port's DSR
input is monitored on the DCD input of the 6551.

Port (DIN5):	Modem (DB25)
	1 ---->	4 (RTS), short to 20 (DTR)
	2 ---->	2 (TD)
	3 ---->	7 (GND)
	4 ---->	3 (RD)
	5 ---->	6 (DSR)

This cable is purported to be compatible with the hardware handshaking of
ProTERM and several other popular modem programs.

I am using an older copy of ProTERM on my Apple IIc using an Intel 144/144e
Faxmodem with the port driven at 19.2 kbps without character loss; of
course, it help to have a Rocketchip II 10 MHz accelerator like I do.  :)

I don't understand why a "patch" would be necessary.  I would be surprised
if configuration software was not provided with the Zip chip to allow you
to configure the speed of all memory accesses.

My Rocketchip II software allows me to configure the following areas:

	- general RAM speed (anywhere from 40 KHz to 10 MHz)
	- speaker output (silent, distorted, music, hifi, normal)
	- pause after RESET (enable/disable 2s wait for keypress)

For each and every slot (port):

	- slot registers speed ($C08x + $n0)
	- expansion ROM speed ($C800 - $CFFF)
	- peripheral ROM speed ($Cn00 - $CnFF)

In addition:

	- use transwarp protocol (emulate transwarp enable/disable command)
	- Apple II/IIplus cold boot w/RESET (automatic reboot w/RESET)
	- Non-Apple II/IIplus language card (have no idea why needed)
	- Run Apple WAIT routine slow

My "default" configuration runs everything except for slot 6 and 7 at
10MHz.  Peripheral and expansion ROM are all accelerated (except for slot 6
and 7).  The Rocketchip remembers this configuration and I surely don't
need to load a "patch" every time that I boot up.

If the Zip chip does not come with similar software, the I pity Zip chip
owners.
