there is a more preferred method, and a more preferred place for that, which
you should be able to get together on your Sun...
 
The source to sscii is (I think) out there somewhere.  This program creates
"binscii" format files which are more efficient than uuencode (6&2 encoding
vs 5&3 for uuencode), and also preserve file information.  It is shell-based,
so you should be able to compile it.
 
Posts should go to comp.binaries.apple2, not this newsgroup.  If you must
post in uuencode, it's probably okay, but try to find sscii - it should be
FTP-able from grind.isca.uiowa.edu in the apple2 directory structure, but may
not be in a format you can read - ask someone (even me :)
