Re: Hi. Anyone know about IBM H/ds & Apples?
Several Apple II controller cards have been marketed over the
years. The problem is that I am not aware of any which can be
readily used with the slotless IIc model you own. The only one
I'm aware of that's still being built is the Turbo IDE produced
by SHH Systeme of Munich, Germany. I do not own own an IDE
card, but I do own and use heavily the SHH Systeme BlueDisk card
which allows me to connect common PC floppy disk drives (up to
2.88 meg) to my Apple IIGS. This BlueDisk card also provides
hardware support for the common floppy bus tape drives, although
Apple II software to support this capability is still in the
vaporware stage. SHH Systeme has an excellent reputation, but
their products are only meant for the Apple IIe and Apple IIGS.
You may be lucky enough to find an Apple IIc-compatible hard
drive over on comp.sys.apple2.marketplace, but it is unlikely to
be useable on any other computer. Maybe you could even find
someone over there willing to accept your IIc as a trade-in for
a 128K enhanced IIe with Apple floppy drive and Apple floppy
drive controller card. The IIe package would be worth more than
your IIc, but not much more. The IIe lacks the portability of
the IIc, but the IIe is much more suitable for matching up with
PC-type peripherals.
If anyone wants to contact SHH Systeme, they can send email to
the proprietor, Joachim Lange, whose address is
J.LANGE7@genie.geis.com. It costs him some to send
transatlantic emails, so he perfers people to direct inquiries
to his support area on GENIE (page 645, category 46, topic 11
for IDE support and topic 12 for floppy support).
